One app instead of ten
Most Root communities install a separate app for every job: tickets, welcomes, XP, polls, a game. Each one takes one of your few app slots, and none of them talk to each other. Abyssal does all of these jobs in a single app, and its parts work together: playing chess, solving the daily puzzle, rolling a card, voting in a poll or posting in the forum all count towards your daily quests, your streak, your badges and your season rank. Your community gets the tools it needs and a reason to open Root every day.
Chess, the way you play it on a chess website — first on Root
Abyssal brings a full chess site into your app channel:
- Play the computer at five levels, from Beginner ("makes plenty of mistakes") to Master ("thinks deepest"). Your record against the computer is kept.
- Play a member: challenge someone by name, or post an open challenge anyone in the community can accept within 15 minutes. Choose white, black or random.
- Time controls from 1-minute bullet to 30-minute games, with or without increment, or no clock at all.
- Rated or casual games. Rated games use Elo, starting at 1200, with separate ratings, win/loss/draw records and leaderboards for bullet, blitz and rapid.
- Everything a real game needs: drag or tap to move with legal moves highlighted, promotion choice, check warnings, offer and accept draws, resign, abort, rematch, flip the board, sound on or off, and every ending recognised (checkmate, stalemate, repetition, the 50-move rule, insufficient material, time).
- Replay your game move by move, and see your recent games.
- Instant moves: your opponent's move appears the moment it is played.
The daily chess puzzle
- The same puzzle for everyone each day, chosen from 2,400 puzzles from the Lichess puzzle database: easier early in the week, harder at the weekend, and a special Sunday challenge.
- Multi-move puzzles: your opponent replies, and you keep finding the best move until it is solved. Limited mistakes, and you can ask to see the solution.
- Share your result in the community without giving the answer away, and earn points for the season leaderboard.
Something new every day
- Three short quests a day, picked only from the features your community has switched on. Each quest pays coins, and finishing all three pays a bonus.
- A forgiving streak: you earn a shield every 7 days (up to 2), and a shield is used automatically on a day you miss. Your best streak stays on your profile.
- 16 badges in bronze, silver, gold and legend. Once earned, they never expire.
- Who's this? Guess today's character from four names. The picture gets clearer after every wrong guess, and you have three tries.
- Monthly seasons with three leaderboards: your community, all of Root, and communities against each other. Communities are ranked by the average score of the members who play, so a small community can win.
A gacha card game with 250,000 cards — first on Root
- Roll a card, roll only from a series you choose, or take your free roll every day (every 7th day in a row is Epic or better).
- Each roll spins through cards before landing on yours.
- Albums with a coin reward for completing a series, a wishlist with a bonus chance to draw from it, a featured series every month, a pity counter that guarantees a Legendary or better, and published odds.
- Fuse three duplicates into a card of the next rarity, level cards up, lock the ones you never want to sell, sell one or sell all unlocked cards.
- Build a team of three and duel other players' teams.
- A card market where players list cards at their own price.
- Your cards appear as pictures you tap to pick: no typing names.
A full economy — first on Root
- Daily coins, work, quests, payments between members, and a richest-members list.
- Casino games with animations: slots with spinning reels, a coin that flips, a roulette wheel, plus blackjack, mines and high-low.
- A simulated stock and crypto market with price charts and your own portfolio.
- An RPG with heroes, adventures, gear and a shop, and a robbery game members can choose to join.
- All coins are virtual. Link your Discord account and your coins and cards are the same on Discord and Root; without Discord you still get your own wallet.
Tournaments — first on Root
- Single-elimination brackets with sign-ups, automatic pairings and byes.
- Chess tournaments are played in the app and results are recorded automatically. For any other game, staff enter the results.
- The winner gets a badge, and a role if you choose one.
